Work Plan
The DFC Utilities Infrastructure Project has been divided into 8 total areas. Each area is split into multiple phases that are aligned with the sequence of work. Keeping construction in a centralized area helps to ensure that buildings will be accessible and parking will be available at all times. Construction will begin on the west end of the Denver Federal Center and move east. After areas 1 through 7 are complete, improvements along North Avenue (Area 8) will begin. Construction on the pump house began on August 3, 2009 and will have little impact on surrounding tenant agencies.
Below are the estimated dates of waterline installation for each area. Waterline installation requires trench excavation and therefore has the highest impact on tenants. During the dates below, tenants can expect to experience road closures, detours, temporary parking locations, noise and construction equipment moving within each designated area. Crews will initially install all water pipes within 5 ft of each existing building. All final connections will be made once the new system has been installed and the pump station has been commissioned. The pump stations is estimated to be completed in April of 2010. Therefore, no water outages are planned until after this date.
Area #1 - August 29, 2009 through November 2009
Area #2 - November 2009 through January 2010
Area #3 - October 2009 through January 2010
Area #4 - November 2009 through April 2010
Area #5 - February 2010 through May 2010
Area #6 - March 2010 through July 2010
Area #7 - December 2010 through February 2011
Area #8 - June 2010 through July 2010
Pump House Construction - August 3, 2009 through April 2010
If work is halted at any time during the course of the project, construction will shift to the backup area (labeled “Plan B” on the phasing plan). Once the stoppage is resolved, the project will resume with its original sequence. Each designated area has its own traffic control plan that is devised with the help of building managers, property managers, and various facility personnel. Extensive coordination and communication efforts have been established to minimize the impact on all tenant agencies.
Sanitary sewer installation and rehabilitation are the other major construction activities that will have some impacts on tenants. These activities will occur before the waterline is installed in each area and will not have any major road closures or detours as a result. There will be no outages due to sanitary work.
